Slide 12.Nodular hyperplasia, Prostate

A. Brief Descriptions

  1. Hyperplasia of prostate stromal and epithelial cells. (always in the periurethral region).

  2. Common in male over 50 years old.

  3. S/S : partial or complete obstruction of urethra.

B. Gross Findings

  1. Well-defined, variously sized nodules.

  2. Cut surface: small nodules, spongy, gray and tough (stromal proliferation) to yellow and soft with milky white fluid oozing out (glandular hyperplasia).

C. Micro Findings

  1. Glandular proliferation or dilation, large acini with papillary infoldings (star shape).

  2. Some acini lined with pale, columnar to cuboidal cells & small dark cells in deep layer (two-cell type).

D. Others:

  1. 病理組織重點:

    • Gland and stroma proliferation.

    • Large acini with papillary infoldings.
