A. Brief Descriptions

  1. Schistosoma masoni, S. japonicum, S. mekongi, & S. inter-calatum.

  2. Mature in the portal venous system causing hepatosplenic schistosomiasis with periportal fibrosis and portal hypertension.

B. Gross Findings

C. Micro Findings

  1. Ova entrapped in portal veins of about 50 um diameter, early with eosinophilic abscess, while the eggs are coated with a rim of fibrinoid material (Hoeppli-Splendore reaction), then an epithelioid granuloma with central necrosis, remaining ova then calcified.

  2. Worm pairs in portal venous system resulting hemozoin pigments & Symmer's clay pipestem fibrosis.
