《Slide 159.》Japanese B encephalitis, Cerebrum
A. Brief Descriptions:
Arbovirus, animal host and mosquito vectors.
B. Gross Findings:
Acute cases: only congestion and swelling of the brain.
Chronic cases: areas of cerebral softening and deposition of mineral within brain.
C. Micro Findings:
Perivascular cuffing and parenchymal inflammatory infiltrates.
Inflammatory nodules.
D. Others:
Meningoencephalitis: 是parenchyma的感染,不過常伴隨有腦膜的發炎。
Mosquito vectors: Culex pipiens、Culex tritaeniorhynchus、other Culex spp.、Aedes vexans、Anopheles spp.
Reservoir animals: snake、swan、horses、birds.
Incubation peroid: 6~16 days.
Mortality: 50% in infants and child。7%~ 33% in adults.
Morbidity: persistent neurologic disability in survivors.
