《Slide 9.》Melanin (Malignant melanoma), Eye
A. Brief Descriptions:
Intraocular melanoma is common in Caucasians.
It occurs on the uveal tract (the iris; ciliary body; and choroids) , on the skin of lid , on the conjunctiva and with in the orbit.
B. Gross Findings:
Striking variations in pigmentation--black、brown、red、dark blue、gray.
C. Micro Findings:
It is hard to identify the cell shape or type without remove the melanin.
D. Others:
Origin of melanoma of the eye.
Melanocytes of the uvea (iris、ciliary body、choroid).
Pigmented epithelium of the retina.
Mostly from posterior choroid.
