《Slide 20.》Peptic ulcer, Stomach
A. Brief Descriptions:
Cause : imbalance between the mucosal defense mechanisms and the damaging forces (gastric acid & pepsin ; H. pylori ).
Definition : a breach in the mucosa of the alimentary tract.
B. Gross Findings:
Sharply demarcated ulcer edges with granulation tissue in ulcer base.
C. Micro Findings:
The ulcer extend at least into the submucosa & often into the muscularis propria.
Ulcer crater with inflamed, degenerated & regenerated mucosa at the edge.
