《Slide 32.》Adrenocortical adenoma, Adrenal gland
A. Brief Descriptions:
Benign .
Tumors removed from patients with Cushing syndrome usually weigh less than 50g and measure 3 to 4 cm in diameter.
In broad terms, the majority of adrenal cortical adenomas occur in adults with a slight predilection for females.
B. Gross Findings:
Well-circumscribed nodular masses (Usually < 5 cm. In diameter and 5-50 gm. In weight).
C. Micro Findings:
Adenomas are composed of uniform large cells arranged in nests and trabeculae.
The cells have abundant lipid-filled cytoplasm and small uniform nuclei.
Nuclear enlargement and pleomorphism are common, but mitotic figures are rare.
