A. Brief Descriptions

  1. Arises in metaplastic squamous epithelium of bronchi.

  2. Over 80% of squamous cell carcinomas occur in males and is strongly associated with cigarette smoking.

B. Gross Findings

  1. bulky mass, central or peripheral; central cavitation and necrosis is common.

C. Micro Findings

  1. Range from well-differentiated SCC showing keratin pearls and intercellular bridge to poor- differentiated neoplasm having only minimal residual squamous features and dyskeratocytes.

D. Others:

  1. Arises in metaplastic squamous epithelium of bronchi.

  2. Accounts for 25-35% of all lung cancers.

  3. Over 80% of squamous cell carcinomas occur in males, and is strongly associated with cigarette smoking.

  4. Most cases are centered in segmental bronchi.
