113.》Squamous
cell carcinoma, Lung
A. Brief Descriptions:
Arises in metaplastic squamous epithelium of bronchi.
Over 80% of squamous cell carcinomas occur in males and is strongly associated with cigarette smoking.
B. Gross Findings:
bulky mass, central or peripheral; central cavitation and necrosis is common.
C. Micro Findings:
Range from well-differentiated SCC showing keratin pearls and intercellular bridge to poor- differentiated neoplasm having only minimal residual squamous features and dyskeratocytes.
D. Others:
Arises in metaplastic squamous epithelium of bronchi.
Accounts for 25-35% of all lung cancers.

Most cases are centered in segmental bronchi.
